PER Mappings — Person Environment Mappings

PER Mappings are child-led visual mapping resources that help children — with the support of a parent or caregiver — map out who they are, what they need, and how the spaces around them shape how they feel.

Grounded in Person-Environment Relationship (PER) thinking, these maps give your child a way to show people what matters to them: their strengths, their interests, the environments they love, and the ones they find more challenging — in their own words, at their own pace.

Three maps. One trail. Your family chooses how far to go.

Base Camp starts with one thing your child loves — a simple, warm entry point that helps a new teacher, carer, or family member begin a real conversation.

Expedition builds a fuller picture: strengths, interests, what works and what doesn't for regulation, and the spaces your child thrives in or finds more demanding.

Summit goes further — adding what emerging dysregulation might look like for your child, and the regulation strategies that help them return to themselves.

Child-Led Briefing Cards

Included with your maps are eight briefing cards, each designed to spark a light, easy conversation with your child on a specific topic. Every card carries an icon that matches directly to an icon on the map — so each answer your child gives has a clear place to land.

What's Included

A digital download of all three map templates and all eight briefing cards — printable, fillable by hand, and reprintable as many times as your child's answers change. Hand them to a new teacher, an early childhood educator, a grandparent, a coach — anyone stepping into your child's world who needs the map.
